Neil Young (born November 12, 1945) is a Canadian-American singer-songwriter who began his music career in Winnipeg in the 1960s before co-founding the folk-rock band Buffalo Springfield in Los Angeles. His solo work, often backed by Crazy Horse, includes acclaimed albums Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After the Gold Rush, Harvest, On the Beach and Rust Never Sleeps, and he was also part of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. His distorted guitar work earned him the nickname "Godfather of Grunge", and he has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice — as a solo artist (1995) and as a member of Buffalo Springfield (1997).
